Hi Internet.
First of all, I would like to say that I am OUTRAGED.
I have just spent the last one and a half hours watching Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. I ADORE the novels by Richelle Mead. They have been a HUGE part of what inspires me to write. But this movie... This film makes me want my life mission to be best filmmaker ever.
When I first read the series, I always believed that when I grew up to be an actress, I would be the one playing Rosemarie Hathaway. But obviously, I'm not. I was okay with that. I mean, nobody gets everything they want. So during the anticipation for the film's debut, I raved about it for ages. Now, I wish I hadn't. I can't begin to describe what repulsed me about this movie. Nor can I fully express my contempt towards the script, or the wardrobe, or the editing, or the directing, or some of the acting, or-- You get the picture.
Just to say, I did really enjoy the explanation about the three vampire species and I now know how to pronounce dhampir, yay! But that was the only thing I really loved.
At first, my reaction was all adrenaline of seeing my most beloved book series come to life. The intro was okay. I mean, they didn't sleep across the room from eachother as described in the book, nor did Lissa compel that guy to give them his car keys, but that was okay. I mean, you can't have a word-by-word representation of the novel. Then it got to Dimitri's 'fight' with Rose. I mean, it's not really a fight in the book either, but the movie's version was..... Strange, to say the least. But that was okay - mostly because of the novelty of the whole thing and the buzz of excitement in me. Then came the Strigoi attack as they approached the gates of St Vladimir's. That was weird. I don't quite know what the Waters brothers were trying to achieve with that scene, but to me it was unnecessary. Don't even get me started of Queen Tatiana Ivashkov. Her voice was horrifying, the royal fanfare ugly and lame, the room a DISGRACE - I mean, they had a fucking castle at your disposal. Couldn't think to find a better room? Or make it a better one? - and I wanted to take that fucking crown off of her pretty little head, tear it to pieces and shove it up her ass. Not to mention, I could think of a thousand ways of how I could make the dance scene infinitely better. Starting with the name. The equinox dance? Come on!
I think you guys understand now that I hate the film. When I saw all the bad reviews on it, I was mad, but now I've seen the shit, I am FURIOUS. How dare they take this beautiful, heart-wrenching beacon of light, hope and non-sparkly mythological creatures and burn it to the ground. It feels as if they have spat on each page and crushed it beneath their feet to ash and ruin. Just as I am doing to this movie. I feel like if I say any more, I won't have the will to live anymore - I know it sounds dramatic, but this is what my hot head is feeling at this point in time. That, and it has a mahoosive headache coming on.
I won't slate this film any more, but today I vow that if I ever make a film out of my books, I won't be calling the Waters brothers on it. That, and I'd quite like to hand-pick a number of fans to review parts of the movie first. That'd be cool if other authors/film people did that.
Sorry for the tsunami of negativity-- Oh Gods, the headache's here.
-Val out.
PS: looking over it again, it's REALLY negative, so if anyone wants to hate me for it go ahead. And please contribute to the discussion.
